About

Guided by the Himalayas. Grounded in Purpose.

The Himalayas are not just where we work—they are where we come from.

The Himalayan Guides was born from a return home. A return to mountains that shape character, communities that endure hardship with dignity, and a way of life rooted in simplicity, strength, and connection to nature.

Our founder Prashanna was born in the Annapurna region of Lamjung, where mountain trails are the first roads you learn to walk. Like many from rural Nepal, his journey took him abroad—to Australia—for education and opportunity. Yet in 2015, when Nepal was shaken by a devastating earthquake, he returned—not as a tourist, but as a volunteer with the NRNA, working across affected districts during one of the country’s most difficult moments.

What was meant to be a temporary act of service became a turning point.

Amid collapsed homes and broken trails, something powerful reawakened: a love for the mountains, a responsibility toward the people who live among them, and a realization that meaningful travel could be a force for stability, dignity, and hope—especially in times of crisis.

So he stayed.

The Himalayan Guides was founded not to sell trips, but to create livelihoods, preserve mountain culture, and guide travelers with integrity through the Himalayas. From the beginning, our mission has been simple:
to offer journeys that respect the land, honor local communities, and leave a positive footprint long after the trek ends.

More Than Guides. A Community.

Our team is made up of guides, porters, and leaders who are born in the hills and mountains of Nepal. These are not just professionals trained in logistics and safety—they are storytellers, caretakers, and custodians of living traditions.

Many of our guides have led expeditions for over a decade. They are trained in wilderness safety, altitude awareness, and emergency response, but just as importantly, they understand the emotional rhythm of the mountains—the moments when silence matters more than words, and when encouragement can change everything.

We believe guiding is not about leading from the front, but walking beside.

Travel That Gives Back

Every journey with The Himalayan Guides directly supports local families, rural economies, and mountain communities. We work without middlemen, prioritize fair wages, and reinvest in regions that are often the most vulnerable during political, environmental, or natural crises.

When you travel with us, you are not just crossing passes or reaching destinations—you are contributing to something larger:

  • sustaining traditional mountain livelihoods
  • supporting education and resilience
  • keeping ancient trails alive for future generations

Why We Exist

In a world of rushed itineraries and mass tourism, we choose a different path.

We exist to slow things down.
To guide with care.
To remind people that the Himalayas are not a backdrop—but a living, breathing home.

Whether you are trekking to a legendary base camp, walking through remote villages, or undertaking a sacred pilgrimage, we believe the journey should transform you—not just move you.

This is our story.
And when you walk with us, it becomes part of yours.

Welcome to The Himalayan Guides.
